Brewery set to axe 150 jobs as part of overhaul of operations

Brewery company Greene King is examining plans to axe scores of jobs as part of plans to overhaul its operations.
The Bury St Edmunds based brewer, which announced a £40 million investment in a new state-of-the-art facility on the Moreton Hall Industrial Estate which is due to open in the summer of 2026, says changes to its business model will require a reduced workforce.
The chief executive Nick Mackenzie is reported to have said the move comes in response to ongoing challenges in the cask ale market.
The brewer plans to shift its focus away from selling beer through supermarkets and retailers, instead prioritising supply to its pubs.
“As a result we expect there to be up to 150 roles impacted, subject to consultation,” he said.
Mr Mackenzie said the new brewery would secure the company’s long-term future in the town, where it has brewed for more than 200 years.
