Haverhill shoplifter jailed and suspended sentence activated

A 43-year-old man has been jailed after pleading guilty to 11 counts of shoplifting.

Jordan Russell-Linton, (pictured above) of no fixed abode but from the Haverhill area, was arrested on Thursday, July 9, and appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 10 where he was sentenced to 16 weeks’ imprisonment.

The offences put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence, for which he was handed an additional custodial sentence of 24 weeks. This will be served consecutively, making the sentence a total of 40 weeks’ imprisonment.

Items stolen were predominantly alcohol and meat products.

The investigations, led by the Haverhill Community Policing Team, form part of the constabulary’s ongoing commitment to tackle and eliminate on acquisitive crime and support local businesses affected by retail theft.

Inspector Matt Paisley said: “This result showcases the motivation and hard work of our officers in bringing a prolific offender to justice.

“There is no such thing as a victimless crime, and this case should send a strong message to those committing offences in our community that their behaviour is not tolerated, that they won’t get away with it, and we will use the full powers of the law to prevent them from causing harm to our communities.”
