Ninth arrest in attempted murder case

A ninth man has been arrested in connection with an attack in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds in March this year.

Police arrested a 19 year-old man on Thursday, August 6, at a police station in London, on suspicion of attempted murder. He has now been released on bail.

Three men aged 19, 59 and 51, arrested on Wednesday, August 5 , all on suspicion of attempted murder, have also been bailed.

Police were called at just before 10.15pm on Sunday, March 22, to reports of a serious incident in Mortimer Road.

A man aged in his 40s was found to have sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The victim spent several weeks in hospital before being well enough to be released.

Police believe this was a targeted incident, with no wider threat to the local community.

In early April, following police enquiries, Sebastian Smith, of Radford Road, in Lewisham, was charged with attempted murder.

Four other males, aged 24, 26, 47 and 28, have all previously been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and released on bail pending further enquiries.
