Town snatch three points at Selhurst Park to give them six out of four games in the Premier League

Six points from four games can be regarded as a good return on the opening fixtures of the Premier League.
Town fans were at least expecting a point at Selhurst Park yesterday (Saturday, September 12) but to come away with all three was exceptional.
Ipswich are already halfway to equalling the amount of wins they managed last time they were in the top flight, when they managed just four wins in the 2024-25 campaign.
Zian Flemming’s late winner had the Tractor Boys’ in ecstatic mood as they belted out the praises of manager Gary O’Neil to The Proclaimers hit song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” .
While former Town boss Kieran McKenna was seen at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium with his wife watching Spurs grind out a 0-0 draw against the North Londoners, O’Neil was guiding his team to victory.
But it could have been a totally different story if Palace had managed to keep Axel Disasi on the pitch after he was shown a red card for a late and high foot to the shin challenge on Jack Clarke.
The hosts were deservedly ahead when Anan Khalaili opened the scoring for the hosts after Daichi Kamada found the 22-year-old on the right flank in acres of space.
His effort – which could have been a shot or a cross – took a deflection off full-back Leif Davis before nestling in the bottom corner of Kjell Scherpen’s goal.
Davis soon recovered when he delivered a wicked ball into the box and found the head of Emersonn, whose header powered past Walter Benitez for the equaliser.
On the stroke of half-time, Ipswich once again found Emersonn in the box, who shouldered the ball in to the path of Davis and he headed home to give Ipswich the lead
Jorgen Strand Larsen then got the better of Issa Diop and rifled home an equaliser before Flemming grabbed the winner for Ipswich at the death.
Town had a series of other chances to extend their 2-1 lead and should have put the game out of reach of Palace but with a man advantage they conceeded a second goal.
So Town came away rather fortunate to get the 3-2 victory … but there will be loads of twists and turns to come throughout the season.
A buoyant O’Neil speaking to BBC Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson following the conclusion of the game said: “We did deserve to win, obviously a few things went our way with the sending off but great character in the group to go 1-0 down early to have to fight back again, score a great goal to make it 1-1 and then the momentum starts to turn and then obviously the red card which is helpful in a way but also means that the lads are sort of out there having to deal with something they are not prepped for and you could see we made a few errors against that.
“Against the 10 we could have done better but we should have won the game just after half time.
“We had some real clear chances that the game should be finished and then we make it difficult for ourselves but as you can see in the group we have unbelievable fight and character in there.
“So pleased with winning away in the Premier League, is unbelievable tough when you come up from the Championship especially to go away to anyone, European champions last year, Crystal Palace in the Europa League again this season, big challenge for us and a fantastic three points..”
