The generosity of businesses towards an appeal to raise money for a hospital charity has resulted in £5,000 being collected.
The money came from the Rotary Newmarket Christmas and New Year campaign with companies and traders in the town contributing funds along with prizes for a raffle.
It subsequently led to the cash being raised with it going towards the My WiSH Charity to be directed towards the Macmillan Cancer Unit, at the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.
President of the club Colin McCarty chose the unit after four Rotarians had been treated by the department over the past six years.
Treasurer Peter Moore and Andrew Rycraft presented a cheque for £5,000 to Sally Daniels, the My WiSH fundraising manager, outside their Rotary lunch venue, the Heath Court Hotel, in Newmarket.
She is due to speak to the club via Zoom tomorrow (Tuesday, June 15), where she will tell members and their guests how the money will be used to pay for patient activity/exercise sessions.
Sally said: “We cannot thank the Rotary enough for this generous donation. The last year has been tough for charities so to have organisations like this still working hard to help their local NHS charity is just fantastic. The money will make a huge difference to so many patients. Thank you to everyone who supported Rotary Newmarket.”
The Rotary club gave a huge thank you to all the local businesses who sponsored the appeal including A J Wealth Management, Anglia Fabrication, A Barker, Ben Burgess, Caps Cases, J Curtis, D J Evans, Fenway, FRS Roofing, Howdens, Jackson-Stops, Key Locks, MHHP Accountants, Mitchams Burwell, Morris Armitage, Huws Gray (Ridgeons), G Reynolds, Southgate of Newmarket, Test and Evaluation, Tops Tiles, Turners, Saint Andrew Bureau, M Skelton and UFAC UK, Zion Landscapes.
And among the raffle prizes donated were a meal for four at the Heath Court Hotel; meals for two from Prezzo, Wildwood, El Guaca and the Bell Inn in Kennet; shopping vouchers, Powters Butchers & Deli; Afternoon Tea for two, Nancy’s Tea Room, The Pantry, and the Bell Inn at Kennet; sports massage, Mike Bell; floral gift, Bouquets of Newmarket; wine gift, Majestic Wine; case of wine, Southgate of Newmarket; statuette, A S Wigg & Son Jewellers; shopping vouchers, La Hogue, Mr Fothergills and Rothwells Cleaning Services; mantle clock, – the Libra Company; pet health check, Swayne & Partners; original oil painting by Bishop of Coventry, Pippa Hull; open house event, the Jockey Club Rooms; treatment vouchers, Derby Cottage Clinic; a case of champagne, Gracewells; tractor and trailer, Ben Burgess; hamper, Waitrose; 60-minute golf lessons Richard Childerly and John Sharkey; brows and lashes voucher, Ella Bellissima; framed Trevor Jones photo Sunset over the July Course; coffee machine, Tesco; and family ticket, National Horse Racing Museum.
