NHS staff get tickets to pantomime thanks to Anglia Suspended Ceilings

The two final performances of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds annual pantomime “The Legend of Robin Hood”, will be very special performances.

For over 700 NHS staff and their guests, from West Suffolk Hospital, have been invited to attend the shows on Sunday, January 15, funded entirely through fundraising by David Mulley and his team at Anglia Suspended Ceilings.

When Covid-19 hit, it was frontline workers at the NHS who were uppermost in people’s minds. Having personally received care for both himself and his family from West Suffolk Hospital, Mr Mulley decided he wanted to give something back to the NHS staff there.

Given his long-term relationship with the Theatre Royal and knowing the joy that pantomime brings to so many each year, he decided to buy exclusive use of two performances of the pantomime and offer the seats to staff at West Suffolk Hospital.

In order to raise the funds to support this idea, Mr Mulley organised two quiz evenings at the theatre in 2021 and 2022, supported by his friends and business associates, predominantly local companies in the building and construction trade, raising over £10,000.

He said: “How can we ever thank all the amazing people in the NHS and all the key workers for risking their own lives to protect and care for us. I very much hope that this special performance of ‘The Legend of Robin Hood’, which we are so proud to support, will give much pleasure to those able to attend.”

Theatre Royal has worked with MyWish Charity to allocate over 700 tickets to NHS staff and their guests along with some of the charities own fundraising team and hospital volunteers.

Head of development at the theatre, Emma Suckling, was thrilled when Mr Mulley first approached her with his idea.

She said: “We are so proud to work with David Mulley and Anglia Suspended Ceilings. Their ongoing support of Theatre Royal is crucial to our survival and we could not be happier to work on this very special event with them. It’s so close to David’s heart. We have loved working with David, and MyWish Charity, to raise funds to enable this special day to happen and to welcome so many NHS staff to Theatre Royal.“

These last two performances of the pantomime will be the final two of 83 performances of this annual favourite in Theatre Royal’s calendar.
