Armed robbery at betting shop in Bury St Edmunds

A man armed with a knife carried out a robbery at a betting shop in Bury St Edmunds, this morning (Tuesday, September 19).

Police received a report at about 10.20am after the incident at Ladbrokes on St Olaves Precinct.

A man entered the premises and threatened staff with a knife, demanding money.

The male member of staff gave him a quantity of cash before the offender left the scene on foot in the direction of Western Way.

The victim was shaken but unhurt. A short while later, police arrested a man, aged in his 30s and he will be taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour prior to the incident or has dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist the investigation should contact Bury St Edmunds CID, quoting CAD 103 of 19 September 2023.
