Golfers have been out on the course raising money for charity.

A total of 48 people took part in a competition at All Saints Golf Club, at Fordham All Saints, with funds going toward the My WiSH Charity.

The money has been set aside to support families of people going through cancer while being treated at the West Suffolk Hospital with the day realising a total of £3,000.

Held back in June there were a total of three competitions: nearest the pin, longest drive and best score, but the eventual winner of the day was My WiSH, which supports the work of the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Organised and supported by Styne Group, a multi faceted business involved in engineering, industrial refrigeration, electrical and environmental initiatives and based in Rickinghall, 12 teams of four took part involving client and suppliers of the company.

The money came via various sponsors of the day and Barry Dowman, the group CEO, said: “We had a similar day last year but this year we decided to raise the money for My WiSH. We got away with the weather as it looked cloudy when we started but it stayed dry for the day.

“It was a great day and there were three winners but the main winners were My WiSH.”

The sponsors of the day were Styne, Quartzelec, Lingwood, John Doe Furniture, Avacor, Towergate insurance, Geberit, Unicrimp, Edmundson’s Norwich and Ovia lighting.

The cash is earmarked for the counsellor pot at the hospital. The charity already provides a counsellor for patients undergoing cancer treatment and HOPE courses for when their treatment is completed but My WiSH felt there was a need to support family members as they care for their loved ones.

Sally Daniels, My WiSH fundraising manager, said: “It’s so hard to see a loved one undergoing cancer treatment and we wanted to ensure the patients’ loved ones felt supported too. This is a new initiative but one we hope will benefit many.

“Huge thanks to Styne for this amazing donation and also to everyone involved in their charity golf day”.
