Countrywide touring production ‘As She Likes It’ on stage at The Quay Theatre, Sudbury, next week

The Quay Theatre, in Sudbury, is the venue next week for “As She Likes It” which is inspired by what is perhaps the best-suppressed scandal in Hollywood history.

The production is on a nationwide tour and arrives at the Suffolk venue after opening at Ormskirk back on February 8 and has so far been at Leeds, Stamford, Middlesbrough, Barnsley, Tewkesbury and Chelmsford.

It continues into Harlow after Sudbury, on Tuesday, February 20, and travels round much the country before its final show at Nottingham on March 15.

The story starts In 1937, when 20-year-old Patricia Douglas was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted at an MGM party.

Taking on Hollywood’s most powerful institution, the dancer filed charges which were swiftly dismissed and silenced.

Three generations later, through a fusion of live theatre and filmed footage, “As She Likes It” exposes the cultural legacy of sexism and exploitation that still haunts the industry today.

Created by writer and actor Chloe Wade, it is darkly comedic, queer, contemporary Brechtian-style play that uses live theatre and filmed footage to pose the question: “How much has changed between the Hollywood of yesteryear and now?”

It stars Hollyoaks’ actress Krupa Pattani along with Lucy Tuck who plays the leading lady, Tanika Yearwood, Stacey Evans, along with and Chloe, in what will be her writing debut.
Tickets are from £10 available from The Quay box office.
