These six adorable youngsters (pictured above) have been instrumental in raising over £450 for a hospital appeal.
Aiden Jobin, Ameya Mary Pradosh, Angelo Paul, Dan Jose, Geon Jensan and Yohan Suraj, who are aged between nine and 10, took Holy Communion for the first time at St Edmunds’ Catholic Church, in Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds.
There followed a special gathering to celebrate the occasion at the New Green Community Hall, in Thurston, with a total of £468.75 being raised for the West Suffolk Hospital’s WiSH Upon a Star children’s appeal.
The campaign is run by the hospital’s charity, My WiSH, and is aimed at enhancing the care young people receive across the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, both in hospital and out in the community.
Ajith Rose, the father of one of the six, said all the youngsters’ parents had their children delivered at the West Suffolk with most of them also working at the site and wanted to give something back in return for the wonderful care and attention they received.
Along with his wife Julie they said they were “delighted” to invite people along to their “special” fundraising event.
“This joyous occasion brings together faith, love, and the spirit of giving. Our event served a dual purpose: to celebrate the spiritual milestone of our young ones as they receive the sacrament of first Holy Communion and to raise funds for a noble cause close to our hearts.
“As we witness our children taking their first steps toward a deeper connection with God, we also extend our hands to those in need.”
Ajith, who lives in Bury and is a software developer, said the event went really well and he was pleased with the donations and amount collected, with most being raised online thanks to them setting up a Just Giving social media page.
He said: “All of us have been treated at the hospital in some way or the other and some work there; that’s why we chose to raise the money.”
Sally Daniels, fundraising manager for My WiSH, said: “It was so kind of Ajith and all the other families to include us in their special day. This money will help us enhance the care of children across the county whether they are needing the emergency department or more specialist complex care. Thank you so everyone for their support.”
