Longer opening hours planned for Wetherspoons from 7am to 1.30am
Wetherspoons, in Abbeygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, (pictured above) is planning to extend its opening hours at the start and end of the day.
JD Wetherspoon has put forward proposals to West Suffolk Council for The Corn Exchange, which was claimed to be the poshest Wetherspoon restaurant in the UK by national newspaper The Sun in 2023.
The pub chain is seeking to extend its opening hours in the morning and at night.
The venue is currently open between 8am and midnight Sunday to Thursday, while it is open from 8am to 1am on a Friday and Saturday.
However, the new proposals could mean the pub is open from 7am until 12.30am Sunday to Wednesday.
It has also sought an extension for its hours between Thursday and Saturday, allowing it to be open from 7am until 1.30am. This would also apply for any day preceding a Bank Holiday.
The application is expected to be determined by Thursday, March 20.
Meanwhile, the pub is set to be the starting point of a campaign supporting Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
The Ukrainian community is staging #StaywithUkraine in the town in support of Ukraine on Saturday, February 22, and Monday, February 24.
On the Saturday, at 11am, they will start a march from the Corn Exchange and down Angel Hill.
It will end with a minute’s silence and the singing of the Ukrainian National Anthem at 12 noon and then will head to the Abbey Gardens to unveil a Memorial Board at the tree planted on Ukrainian Independence Day in memory of all those who have died defending Ukraine’s independence.
