Mid Suffolk Rotary President Guy Wiltshear recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to The Moses Project, a local initiative dedicated to supporting young families in need.

The donation was received by Nicky Thomas and Audrey Hart, who represented the project.

During the meeting, Nicky gave a talk about the important work The Moses Project does, helping needy families with essential items when they welcome a new baby.

The club was inspired by the project’s mission and proud to support such a meaningful cause.

The application went in in 2021 and the first money was transferred in 2022. The club has so far donated £5,700.

The Moses Project been going since 2016 – in 2016 they delivered 16 baskets, in 2024 they gave out 248 baskets and that figure included a set of quads and five sets of twins.

This year, so far, they have had 78 referrals that included a set of triplets and two sets of twins.

The Joseph Rowntree Report published in March stated that one in five people in the UK (21 per cent) were classed as living in poverty in 2022/23 that’s 14.3 million people.

At the same meeting as the Moses Project presentation, a cheque for £500 was awarded to Laura Manchester, foster mother to a disabled young man.

The donation has been used to purchase a front wheel attachment for his wheelchair, enabling him to travel over rough terrain and enjoy more outdoor activities.

In the accompanying photo above, Laura (far right) is seen receiving the cheque from three of the donors: Guy Wiltshear (Mid Suffolk Rotary), Steve Fenning (Forge Church), and Robin Twigge (Rotary Club of Harleston).

We welcome new members from every walk of life. It doesn’t matter whether they are male or female.  The only criteria is they should be relaxed and want to help the community.

Lifelong friendships can be made within the club and generally we meet every other Thursday. If you would like further information contact the secretary Philip Freeman at philip.c.freeman@btinternet.com
