Man appears in court following assault at shopping precinct

A 54-year-old man has appeared in court today, (Monday, July 28), charged with assaulting another man in Bury St Edmunds.

Andrew Allen, of Severn Road, Bury St Edmunds, was remanded in custody by Ipswich Magistrates, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear for a next hearing at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday, August 26.

It comes after police were called at 8.05pm on Saturday, July 26, to reports that a man in his 50s had been assaulted in the St Olaves shopping precinct and Allen was arrested and charged on Sunday.

The victim was described as being in a critical condition in West Suffolk Hospital, on Monday.
