Man jailed for offences outside prison

A 43-year-old man has been jailed for drugs offences occurring outside Stradishall Prison.

Alinur Rahman, (pictured above) of Code Street in the London borough of Tower Hamlets, appeared before Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday, August 13, where he was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.

This is to be served consecutively to a 36-month prison sentence that he is currently subject to, which was imposed at Snaresbrook Crown Court on April 11, for unrelated matters.

Rahman had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on May 24, 2024, to the following three offences: attempting to throw a List A prohibited article into a prison on behalf of a prisoner (namely cannabis); attempting to throw a List B prohibited article into a prison (namely four mobile phones and charging cables); and possession of heroin.

The offences occurred on April 26, 2023, when police received a call from staff at HMP Highpoint reporting that two men had been seen at the perimeter fence acting suspiciously and hiding in bushes.

On arrival at the scene, officers located and detained Rahman along with a second man.

Rahman was found in possession of a carrier bag containing numerous items, including tightly wrapped tobacco and cannabis and four iPhones, chargers and SIM cards.

Both men were taken into police custody and bailed, before being charged on December 20, 2023.

Rahman’s co-defendant was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court earlier this year, on Tuesday, March 25, where he was handed a jail term of four years and nine months.
