Man suffers serious injuries following traffic collision in Haverhill

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Haverhill.

Officers were called at just after 1.30pm yesterday, Thursday, August, 21, to the A143 Sturmer Road – near to the Esso filling station – to reports of an incident involving a mini digger on a trailer, towed by a car, in collision with a male pedestrian.

The victim, a man in 30s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge, by ambulance, having sustained serious injuries.

He is described as being in a serious but stable condition at this time.

The road was closed for several hours, reopening at 9pm.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug-driving and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning.

He was further arrested in custody on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released on bail until Tuesday, November 4, pending further enquiries.
