The Bury St Edmunds Broadcasting Co are staging two upcoming shows at the Unitarian Meeting House in the town,

They are live staged radio play adaptations of “The Ghost Stories of M R James” and “A Christmas Carol” and will be like watching a live recording of a Radio 4 radio play, but with additional costume, lighting, and music+soundscapes.

Both productions, which take place on November 1 and December 13 and 14 are fundraising for two local campaigns: “A Christmas Carol” for the campaign for Cambridge Children’s Hospital, and “Ghost Stories” for The Abbey Heritage Project in Bury St Edmunds.

M R James grew up in Suffolk and was at Kings College Cambridge, where he read his ghost stories to his fellow academics and students at Christmas – Charles Dickens visited Bury St Edmunds more than once, including a stop at The Angel Hotel – therefore, both shows have strong local links.
