A night of laughter and jaw-dropping ventriloquism
Paul Zerdin (pictured above) and his “sponge family” have been wowing audiences across the globe with a cheeky brand of stand-up comedy and ventriloquism for nearly 30 years and he is due to appear at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, later this month.
London-born Paul hit the big time across the pond in 2015, when he was crowned winner of “America’s Got Talent”.
As well as collecting the million-dollar prize, Paul scored his own Las Vegas residency.
Back in home turf, joining Paul on his latest “Jaw Drop UK” tour will be Sam the cocky teenager, Albert the razor-sharp 96-year-old and the self-absorbed baby, while his famous human dummy routine gets an exciting new twist.
Paul explains: “It’s a fresh, funny, fast-paced show – and a bit edgy. I describe it as stand-up comedy where I happen to use puppets. But there’s something about a ventriloquist doing ventriloquism without a puppet – I like the idea of that.”
The tour also marks the return of Paul’s TV and radio personality character, Alasdair Rimmer.
With the lines of reality blurred, it’s sometimes confusing for Paul to know who’s actually running the show.
To make sure he remains in charge, Paul will be bringing along his bodyguard Roger – who claims to be ex-CIA – to help him keep Sam, Albert and Baby in order, as well as a rather annoying urban Fox that has been following him around.
When asked about the new puppets, Paul explained” “The idea with Roger is, when I did ‘America’s Got Talent’ they gave me a bodyguard, and I can’t get rid of him.
“He’s paranoid and thinks everyone’s out to get him and me. The Urban Fox stowed away in my luggage when I was packing and couldn’t get out, so he’s now involved in the show too.”
Paul Zerdin is at The Apex on Sunday, October 26, at 7.30pm.
