Jazz coming to The Apex over the coming weeks

There’s a series of jazz acts coming to The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, over the coming weeks.

First up is Ella and Duke on Friday, November 21, which pays tribute to two of the true greats of jazz music.

In the late 1950s to the early 1960s, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington made a series of recordings which continue to impress listeners to this day.

Led by Peter Long, The Echoes Of Ellington Orchestra, with internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Sara Oschlag, will play music from the 1958 album, “Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Duke Ellington Songbook”, which features classic swing tracks such as “Take The A Train”, “Caravan”, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore”, “C Jam Blues” and many more.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Shakatak (pictured above) bring a night of jazz funk at its best on Monday, December 1.

Original members Bill Sharpe, Jill Saward, Roger Odell, George Anderson and Keith Winter will be playing songs you have enjoyed over the years, such as “Night Birds” and “Down on the Street”, alongside newer material.

A Swinging Christmas on Tuesday, December 16, sees the return of the joyous, jazzy Swinging Christmas show by the Chris Ingham Quintet featuring Joanna Eden (aka Jazz At The Movies).

This sublime seasonal jazz has been an annual sell-out for over a decade at Ronnie Scott’s, The Pizza Jazz Club Soho, the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and concert halls throughout the UK.

Featuring an ever-evolving festive repertoire of feel-good 20th century holiday classics and curiosities, A Swinging Christmas is a unique blend of irreverence, poignancy and jazzy joy.

All shows start at 7.30pm. See www.theapex.co.uk or ring 01284 758000 for more details and to book tickets.
