IT’S PANTO SEASON AT THE THEATRE ROYAL ………OH YES IT IS!!

The Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds hosted its opening night of this season’s Panto, Rapunzel, on Friday 21st November 2025 and what a fun night it was with a brilliant cast of professional actors supported by an equally superb cast of young local actors. The stage settings are fantastic

The Pantomime runs until January 18th 2026 and is forecast to have up to 26000 people seeing this Theatre Royal Production written by Chris Hannon.

Rapunzel is a classic and the audience is treated to all the traditional Panto favourites:

Look Out He’s Behind You!

Oh No He Isn’t … .Oh Yes He Is!

There is slapstick with cream buns stuffed in the face of the poor Mayor, very silly jokes, tricky dance moves and great songs. Do look out for poor Colin or substitute

We are introduced to the Lord Mayor of Bury St Edmunds who loses his daughter Rapunzel to the very nasty Gothel who wants to be young and beautiful forever whilst accompanied by her evil cat Jinx

There is a talking dog called Lassie, a love struck smelly shepherd called Sammy and many many sheep.

And then we are introduced to Rusty McBusty, our classic Panto Dame.

Every day is the same for Rapunzel. Locked high in her tower, she dreams of the world beyond… But today isn’t any ordinary day. Today, she’s had enough.Today… she’s escaping.

What follows is a whirlwind adventure chased by a wicked witch, a chatty dog, and the most hopelessly love-struck shepherd you’ll ever meet. Rapunzel sets off on a quest for the one thing that can save her: … …… the legendary Golden Tulip

The cast for Rapunzel at the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds includes Lowri Sara Jones as Rapunzel, Alasdair Buchan as Rusty McBusty, Ruby Ablett as Lassie, David Monteith as Mr Mayor, Julie Stark as Gothel, Ewan Grant as Sammy, and Lizzie Buckingham as Jinx
