A strong sense of belonging and a “rich and ambitious” curriculum has been highlighted following an Ofsted inspection at a Suffolk primary school.
Wells Hall Primary, in Great Cornard, was one of the first in the county to undergo the new Ofsted framework which includes a new rating system.
The school’s headteacher said he was delighted that Wells Hall was awarded the “Expected Standard” in the six new areas identified by Ofsted.
Headteacher Ben Jeffery said: “I am hugely proud to be leading this school and delighted that the Ofsted report reflects what it is like to be part of the Wells Hall Primary Academy community.
“The Ofsted lead inspector highlighted many areas where the school was meeting ‘strong’ standards and we would like to thank our staff, pupils, families and the school community who have all helped create a school we are rightly proud of.
“I am extremely ambitious and we are already working on the ‘next steps’ from this report to make sure our children have the best possible experience every single day.”
Pupil achievement, positive relationships between staff and pupils, strong behaviour and a playtime that is a “hive of positive activity” were among the many highlights of the report.
The active role pupils can play, including as reading champions and the school council, was also praised.
The inspectors wrote: “There is a strong sense of belonging at this happy, inclusive school.
“Leaders and staff are ambitious and want the very best for pupils.
“The school provides support to pupils and families to make school a place where pupils feel safe, secure and happy.
“Pupils benefit from a rich and broad curriculum and most pupils develop strong learning behaviours.
“Pupils talk positively about the exciting learning they study across different subjects.”
Jonathon Holyhead, chair of governors at Wells Hall, said: “We are very pleased that the hard work of everyone connected to the school has been recognised in this report as well as the significant progress made by the leadership team.”
