Passengers wishing to travel across East Anglia this Easter will be able to make their journeys as the vast majority of the network will be open over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Following planned weekend closures in March, London Liverpool Street will be open with all services running from the London terminus as usual.

Greater Anglia services along the Great Eastern mainline will run to all scheduled destinations including Southend Victoria, Chelmsford, Colchester Ipswich and Norwich.

West Anglia mainline services including the Stansted Express will operatel to Cambridge and Stansted Airport via Tottenham Hale.

While the vast majority of the network will be open, planning ahead will be essential for some passengers travelling on certain routes as engineering work is taking place.

These works include:

  • Continuing the re-signalling renewal work between Cambridge station and Ely;
  • Engineering work is taking place between Fenchurch Street and Barking to support Thames Water bridge repairs and to support DLR track renewal at Limehouse; and
  • General maintenance and repair of the track between Stratford and Meridian Water.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29 and then from Friday to Monday, April 3 to 6, buses replace trains between:

  • Cambridge and Ely/Bury St Edmunds.;
  • Cambridge and Kings Lynn; and
  • Stansted Airport and Ely.

Trains will continue to operate between Cambridge and Stansted Airport/London Liverpool Street / London King’s Cross and towards Brighton.

Trains between Ely and Norwich, and between Peterborough and Ipswich (via Ely) will also continue to operate.

Jamie Burles on behalf of Greater Anglia and Network Rail said: “This Easter the majority of the railway across East Anglia will be open for passengers to enjoy their long Easter bank holiday to the city, country or coast.

“This not only benefits our passengers, but also the communities we serve by providing a high performing train service with great value fares that encourages travel and tourism on these long and hopefully sunny weekends.

“We have some limited engineering work happening in Cambridge and in London, but I hope people will take advantage of our network being mostly open this bank holiday.”
