Man and woman hurt after being attacked in Bury St Edmunds

Two people have been assaulted following an incident near the fire station in Bury St Edmunds.

Police officers were called by the ambulance service at 1am yesterday (Friday, March 6) morning, Friday 6 March, to reports that a man aged in his 50s had sustained injuries in a suspected assault.

Following police enquiries the incident is believed to have occurred in an area adjacent to Parkway opposite the fire station.

The man sustained cuts to his head and injuries to his arm and ribs and was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

It also transpired that a woman was also assaulted during the incident, sustaining minor injuries.

The suspects are described as two males wearing dark clothing. Detectives do not believe this to have been a random attack.

It is thought that the male victim was assaulted with some type of tool or implement with a sharp edge – possibly a claw hammer – and so officers are asking any members of the public who live in the vicinity of the incident to contact officers if they find an item such as this that appears to have been discarded.

Detectives are also asking anyone who was driving in Parkway or nearby roads between 11pm on Thursday, March 5, and 1am the following day with a dashcam in their vehicle, to check the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
