Second arrest made in attempted murder inquiry
A second person has been arrested following an attack in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds, as detectives release details of vehicles that they believe to be connected to the crime.
Police were called at just before 10.15pm on Sunday, March 22, to reports of a serious incident in Mortimer Road.
A man aged in his 40s was found to have sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
It was reported that five suspects wearing dark clothing and face coverings had fled the scene.
Yesterday afternoon, Monday, March 30, officers arrested a 38-year-old man in Bury St Edmunds on suspicion of attempted murder.
He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre (pictured above) for questioning and has subsequently been released on bail until Monday, June 29, pending further enquiries.
On Wednesday, March 25, officers arrested a 44-year-old man in South London, also on suspicion of attempted murder.
The man – from the Brixton area – was transported back to Bury St Edmunds PIC for questioning.
He was subsequently bailed in connection with the Suffolk Police investigation until Friday, May 29, pending further enquiries.
Officers have been progressing numerous lines of enquiry over the past week and seized three vehicles which are suspected to have been used by the offenders.
These are a black Nissan Note; a beige/light-coloured Nissan Note; and a black Nissan Micra.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who believes they saw any vehicles matching these descriptions in the vicinity of Mortimer Road on the night of Sunday, March 22, and this includes anyone driving in the area that may have dash camera footage.
Officers continue to make additional uniformed patrols in the area of Mortimer Road to provide reassurance to the local community.
