Further arrest made in connection with sexual assault on runner in Stowmarket

Detectives investigating a sexual assault that occurred in Stowmarket last year have made another arrest in connection with the incident.

The assault took place between 5.45am and 6am on Wednesday, November 19, along a path off Iliffe Way.

A woman aged in her 30s was out running when she was approached by an unknown man, who pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Officers have been progressing a number of lines of enquiry since the incident occurred and last month arrested a 36-year-old man from Norwich on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted rape.

He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was subsequently released on bail until Monday, June 8, pending further enquiries.

Three other people who have been arrested in connection with this incident remain under investigation as follows:

  • a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted rape, who has been bailed until June 25;
  • a 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and attempted rape. He has been bailed until June 2; and
  • a 50-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She is no longer on bail but has been released under investigation.

The victim continues to be supported by specialist trained officers and has been assisting detectives with their enquiries.
