The London Ballet Company to perform at The Apex this month

The London Ballet Company is set to return to The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, later this month with a dance adaptation that celebrates resilience, friendship and compassion.

Their production, “A Little Princess”, is based on the children’s novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, who also wrote “Little Lord Fauntleroy” and “A Secret Garden”.

First published in 1905 “A Little Princess” is a riches to rags to riches story about a generous and compassionate girl who loses everything except her kind heart – and endures a life of poverty until her fortune is restored.

Raised in India, young Sara embarks on a voyage to New York to begin life at a prestigious boarding school.

She is introduced to the strict discipline of the school, where she makes new friends and notices the quiet presence of Becky, a servant girl.

Undeterred by the rigid environment, Sara’s rich imagination and vivid stories of India soon captivate her classmates.

However, a sudden phone call alters her world irrevocably: her mother falls gravely ill, school fees can no longer be paid, and Sara is stripped of her status and relegated to a servant’s role.

Finding comfort in her friendship with Becky, Sara continues to share her stories in the attic room they inhabit, and her loyal friends secretly gather to listen.

Will Sara get her Happy Ever After?

The dancers of the London Ballet Company hope to inspire, with this tale of friendship, resilience and courage in adversity.

London Ballet Company are at The Apex on Tuesday, April 14, at 7.30pm.
