Pupil found with knife at Elmswell Community Primary School

Parents have received a letter from Elmswell Community Primary School concerning an eight-year-old pupil being found with a knife.

Headteacher Richard Ratcliffe said the school is taking the incident “extremely seriously” and “understands and acknowledges” concerns from parents.

The incident came to light around lunchtime on Friday, September 26, when it was reported to police that a Year 4 pupil had been found with the knife.

In the letter, Mr Ratcliffe said that “at no point were any pupils harmed, either physically or verbally” and asked parents and carers to “avoid speculation, rumours or gossip” as it had hindered aspects of the investigation and “caused unnecessary distress”.

He added: “Due to the nature of the investigation and ongoing discussions with the relevant agencies, we are unable to share further details.

“We remain committed to maintaining transparency where appropriate and will update you if and when we are in a position to do so.”
