Town march on towards the top six in the Championship following 4-1 win at Swansea
Two Championship away games, two away wins, two 4-1 victories.
That’s promotion form by anyone’s estimation and comes as a timely reminder to Ipswich Town fans.
Firstly the initial three away points of the season at QPR which was followed by yesterday’s similar outcome at Swansea (pictured above).
It resulted in Ipswich moving up to seventh spot in the division with a game in hand on those above them as the International break comes into effect.
Then it’s back to the action on Saturday, November 25, with a clash against newly promoted Wrexham at Portman Road.
You have to feel a tad sorry for former Town defender Cameron Burgess who was credited with two own goals against his former club with the other two coming from a wonderful Jack Clarke strike and a first of the season goal from substitute Ivan Azon who was mobbed by the squad on the sidelines.
Ipswich fans were notably downbeat after losing 3-0 at home to Charlton back in October but they have come back strongly and are now undefeated in four games as they mount a challenge towards the top of the league.
Clarke and midfielder Jack Taylor impressed and so did Kieran McKenna’s substitutes with Azon being mobbed by the Town squad after leaping to head home the crucial third goal.
Goalkeeper Christian Walton made a crucial save in the second half when Town were 2-1 ahead when he brilliantly turned a header from Ben Cabango onto the post.
At the end of the game McKenna said he was delighted with the victory saying it was “a result to enjoy”.
He told BBC Radio Suffolk: “You enjoy your away wins, they’re a really good connector for the group.
“You go away from home to tough places like this and you get the win and you have to work hard for it. It’s really good for bringing a new group together.
“It is a result to enjoy and importantly I thought it was a really good performance.
“From the first whistle pretty much to the end I thought there was lots to enjoy about our play.
“On the ball most of our defending was really good, though we are frustrated to concede the goal.
“But I thought it was a really strong performance, a performance to enjoy and of course a really good result.”
